Geoffrey A. Cottier, 70, a lawyer with a Toledo practice who for more than 35 years was magistrate of Defiance County Common Pleas Court, died Friday in St. Luke's Hospital, Maumee. He developed meningitis as a result of Rocky Mountain spotted fever, apparently contracted when a tick bit him as he walked around the farm he lived on in Monclova Township, his son, Dan, said.

Maumee apartment manager gets prison time for stealing rent payments

The former manager of a Maumee apartment complex convicted of stealing some $72,000 from her employer was sentenced Tuesday to 17 months in prison, which she is to serve on top of a four-year sentence she received for a similar crime in Wood County. Amanda Diehl, 38, of Waterville pleaded guilty May 7 in Lucas County Common Pleas Court to grand theft for stealing from Noneman Real Estate.
