Hot air balloons take to the sky at Glass City Balloon Race

After a day filled with festivities, 18 hot air balloons took to the sky Friday evening in front of a cheering crowd of thousands gathered for the third annual Glass City Balloon Race in Rossford. The free community event, which runs all weekend long, features food trucks and vendors, helicopter rides, live music, a 5K run, a BMX stunt show, and, of course, the balloon flights: evening flights starting at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evening, and races at 6:15 a.m. Saturday and Sunday morning.

TARTA to operate shuttle buses for 'Fourth in the 419'

The Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority will for the first time operate downtown shuttle buses from various park-and-ride locations specifically for Toledo's Independence Day fireworks. The "Fourth in the 419" shuttles will leave the nine park-and-ride lots regularly served by the Muddy Shuttle baseball buses at 6 p.m., with return trips departing from Huron Street between Monroe and Washington streets 20 minutes after the fireworks show ends.

Recently, Perrysburg Township detectives arrested Alexey Abreu-Chapotin, 23, and Arnoldo Torna, 48, for supposedly placing card skimming devices at gas pumps across the region. A bill pending in the Ohio House of Representatives that would impose penalties on municipalities that charge higher sewer or water rates outside their corporation limits than they charge users within their boundaries has drawn the endorsement of the director of the Northwestern Water and Sewer District.
